The Importance of Moisture-Free Air

The ambient air discharged by any compressor always contains water vapor, the amount depending on the temperature and the relative humidity. When the air is compressed, the volume decreases proportionally but all the water vapor remains in the air. When the temperature decreases and reaches??? a value at which the air becomes saturated, the humidity (kept as vapor in the air), begins to condense into a liquid. This temperature at which the vapor condenses is called the Pressure Dew Point. With an appropriate after-cooler unit, which reduces the temperature of the air produced by the compressor, approximately 60% - 70% of the water is condensed and removed with a separator/drain.
